Appleseed and the 10/22

by Retro-Tactical on September 5, 2010

Many folks have shot, or are interested in shooting an Appleseed; I did one back in 2006 I think (I’m old and my memory isn’t what it used to be). Excellent shooting tuition and a good weekend of fun, met some nice people, did a lot of shooting!

With the price of ammunition going up and seemingly never coming down again, more and more people are looking at using .22LR as a good training analog. The Appleseed folks promote this idea, and push the Ruger 10/22 as the ideal weapon for this. In fact they have whole articles written about modifying your 10/22 to become a Liberty Training Rifle.

But this is only half the story. Your liberty training rifle gear also has to reflect your fighting gear, in order to create the right muscle memory. If you have a MOLLE vest or Bandoleer, that you keep your MBR magazines attached to, replacing those magazine pouches with 10/22 magazine pouches for training, will minimize the changes to your muscle memory and make your training that much more effective.

The Retro-Tactical 10/22 magazine pouches are MOLLE compatible and will fit almost any vest, pack, bib, bandoleer or plate carrier, and is ideal for this type of training. Made from a double layer of 1000D Cordura, they are rugged and will wear well, and are available in all the usual colors, plus custom colors are available, all you need to do is drop me a line and let me know what you need.
